For safety and the general well-being of your car, it is important to conduct certain vehicle assessments every once in a while. Just a little bit of TLC can save you a lot of time and money in the long run, so it is definitely worth carrying out the following checks.

Check your fluid level:

Your vehicle’s oil level should be checked at least once a month. Checking your oil level is quite simple, all you have to do is drop the dipstick into the oil tank, ensuring the vehicle is on level ground, and remove it. Then look to see how far the oil has reached on the stick. If it’s low, you will need to replace the oil as quickly as possible.

Washer fluid is usually in a white container near the oil tank and can be seen through its container, so if this should need topping up, it won’t be difficult to tell.

Engine coolant should only be checked if and when the vehicle’s engine is completely cool. Ensure that the liquid isn’t over the cold temperature level to avoid overheating and damage.

Check the brakes:

Firstly, ensure that the vehicle is held up and that you have removed the front wheel. Inspect the brake disk and caliper and look through the inspection hole of the caliper to assess whether the disks, pads or caliper are worn. If this is the case, you may need to visit your local mechanic to repair the damage or wear and tear of the brake pads, disks or caliper.

Check your tyres:

Checking your tyres is quite simple too, as long as you’re aware of what pressure each tyre should be specifically for your vehicle and its model. Your car should have a drivers’ manual to tell you what each tyre pressure should be. You can check your tyre pressure at petrol stations or at supermarkets, and then according to the pressure reading, you can inflate or deflate your tyres, or replace them if there is a slow puncture.

Check the windshield:

You must check your windshield for chips and cracks on a weekly basis, because if you fail to do so and there is damage to your windshield, this could lead to major repairs on your vehicle that could potentially cost you a substantial amount of money. If you ignore a chip or windshield crack, it will worsen over time.
